INTRODUCTION
The modern world PC industries are mainly dominated by two brands, the names of which even our six year olds are familiar with: Apple and Microsoft. Up until 2006, (which honestly feels like the bronze age of world’s technology), these two companies were separated by a rift that allowed no accessibility or connection between their two users, and a decrease in the workload efficiency of users who required both operating systems for their projects. If you needed both, you had to get both a Mac and PC.
However, this rift began to close exponentially in 2006 when Apple began struggles for running Windows based applications by using PowerPC processors. Then came… Boot Camp, a software developed by the cooperation between Microsoft and Mac that allows users to install OS and switch between them by simply rebooting.

WHY USERS DON’T NEED HOW TO USE WINDOWS ON MAC WITHOUT BOOTCAMP
Put simply, Boot Camp is a bridge between Mac and Windows. Users can effectively switch between the two by rebooting and no longer have to choose just one. So, what are the lows? Where are the cons? (dramatic sniff)

This will solve not only the storage option but also keep your Windows and Mac files entirely separate… and of course, Windows won’t take up any drive space at all because it’ll all be stored on an external drive.
HOW TO USE WINDOWS ON MAC WITHOUT BOOTCAMP?
We’re gonna go through this whole process step by step. It may seem a little hard at some points but rest assured, it’ll be easy. So, let’s start now, shall we?
Step 1: Getting an external hard drive
Of course, we’ll need a good Mac compatible external hard drive on which to install Windows. Speed is an important factor since it will allow Windows to run more smoothly later on. The best one in the market would be a Samsung t7 portable SSD which has storage upto 2TB, more than enough for our needs. Format the drive for your Mac so that your Mac will recognize it. This is optional but recommended for you to get a second external drive, or maybe a pen drive, to store all the Boot Camp support files in.
Step 2: Getting an external mouse and keyboard
You’ll also need access to an external USB type keyboard and mouse since there will be no drivers for your keyboard and mouse pad the first time your Mac will boot into Windows. Bluetooth types will not work since Windows won’t be able to utilize your Mac’s Bluetooth card the first time.
Step 3: Downloading a Windows ISO file
A windows ISO file, put simply, is a file used to create a bootable drive for running windows 10 or even 11. This file can be easily downloaded from the Microsoft Software download site. Here is a helpful article.
Step 4: Downloading Etcher
Etcher is a utility that is used to install a bootable version of Windows ISO onto an external hard drive. Though, other utilities such as Rufus are also available for such purposes but most are for PCs only or haven’t been updated to be compatible with the latest MacOS versions. Etcher runs on Mac and is up-to-date.
Step 5: Disabling T2 chip security
It’s been pretty easy so far, right? Now we have gotten the required equipment.
It’s time to make your Mac ready. To do so, you need to disable the T2 chip security since this chip prevents users from booting their Macs from external drive. This can be done in the Mac Startup security settings. To access the settings, simply press and hold the command key and R key. Wait until the Apple logo appears.
Then, within the recovery space, you’ll go into Utilities and find the option Startup security utility. Check the following boxes:
- No security under Authentication
- Allow booting from external media Under secure boot
Close the settings. Turn your Mac off as normal. Know that this entire step is possible only on Intel Macs and thus, installing windows without Boot Camp using this way will not work on M1 chip macs.
Step 6: Downloading support drivers for Boot Camp
These drivers can not be downloaded through Apple or anywhere really so you’ll need to access boot camp just this once. You can discard it later.
You can download the support drivers by searching Boot Camp in the spotlight and running the Boot Camp facility. In the Menu bar, click on Action and then Download Windows Support Software. Afterwards, drag and drop this support software onto the external drive.
Step 7: Creating a windows boot drive
Run the Etcher utility. Select the Windows ISO file you previously downloaded and select the external drive. Etcher will now create a bootable Windows on it. This process can take from 10 to 15 minutes.
Once it’s done, copy the Boot Camp support files into the root of your external drive. Now, turn off your Mac.
Step 8: Booting Windows from external drive
You can finally boot Windows now from your external drive. Simply, turn your Mac on and hold the option key when the Apple logo appears.
FINAL SUGGESTIONS
Now, as I told earlier, this newly installed Windows does not have the drivers for your Mac’s keyboard and mouse. So, simply navigate to the windows C drive, go to the support folder and Launch the bootcamp setup program.
