Windows and MacOS… these are the two leading operating systems in the world today with millions of users worldwide. From home based projects to business related purposes, these systems efficiently direct our workflow and contribute intemperately in the modern digital world. However, since both OS are greatly different, there are certain applications limited to each OS only, in this article i will tell you on how to run window applications on Mac Os.

HOW TO RUN WINDOWS APPLICATIONS ON MAC
A Virtual Machine or VM is an application that effectively mimics another OS, thus basically allowing you to run Windows or even Linux alongside Mac. You can install windows using a license key and Windows will think it is running in another PC while it will actually just be in an app on your Mac. This is a great solution as it allows you to use both systems simultaneously, though it does require a very fast PC with very high storage. The most popular VM applications are Parallels Desktop and VM Fusion. they are commercial software.
A free source for this purpose is Virtual Box for Mac which, however, has a poorer Mac integration systems as compared to the paid apps. None of these apps offer ideal 3D graphics and thus many recent Windows games will still be unplayable on Mac. But this is where BootCamp offers stands out, as discussed later on.
WINE
Originally created by Linux, Wine is an application that, simply speaking, undertakes rewriting the programming code for window applications so that they can run on other OS. Yes, this means there are many applications Wine just won’t be able to run and others which it may run but with some bugs. A great advantage however is that Wine is entirely free and thus doesn’t require its user to buy a windows license or get a VM.
CROSSOVER MAC
Another application, the Crossover Mac, uses the same code as Wine and is mainly focused on making popular programs run.
BOOTCAMP
A great feature offered by Apple is BootCamp which allows you to install both Windows and Mac onto the same pc. However, only one OS can be run at a time and the user will have to restart to switch the OS. ideal for those who want to run Windows applications on Mac.
Unlike a virtual machine, however, this option doesn’t allow you to run MacOS and Windows side by side. Again, Virtual Machines will require you to have a Windows License.
Here is a brief guide on how to install Windows on your Mac, using BootCamp:
- Download Windows ISO file from Windows 10 ISO download page.
- Once you have installed the ISO file, navigate to Utilities folder in Applications.
- Run BootCamp.
- Click “Continue”. (Bootcamp will located the ISO file automatically.)
- Drag the slider in the partition section.
- 48GB is set by default. You may change it however you like within your storage limit.
- Click on Install.
- Type in Password and click “OK.” Your mac will reboot now.
- Choose Language.
- Click “Install now.”
- Type in your Windows product key or skip this step and insert it after installation is completed.
- Choose Windows 10 or windows 10 pro.
- Click on “NEXT > CUSTOM : INSTALL WINDOWS ONLY > DRIVE 0 PARTITION X: BOOTCAMP > NEXT.” It is advised you do not choose anything else.
- Windows will start installing now. Your pc will reboot several times during this process.
- Now, you must choose “Use Express settings” or “Customize your installation.”
- Add a username. You may also add a password.
- Click “Next.”
Note that once Windows has booted fully, a BootCamp installer will appear on your screen. Install BootCamp in your windows as it adds a bunch of drivers that smoothen your experience of using Windows on a Mac.
REMOTE DESKTOP
If you are already using a windows OS, you can skip running windows applications on Mac and just use a remote desktop a technology that allows users to run applications on a pc in another remote location as if they were the ones sitting in front of it.
It connects a “client” computer to a faraway “host” computer allowing the client to use the applications and desktop on the host, like a “remote controlled software”. Moreover it is productive, cost effective and allows its users the same experience they get while using their own pcs. It has especially been quite effective during the COVID work from home period. This option is optimal for such businesses that either have employees working from different locations or from home.
So, to put it shortly, the best options on how run Windows applications on Mac are Virual machines or Bootcamp. Remote desktop or applications such as Wine are hardly as efficient. But, all in all, each option requires quite some work. So, really, the best thing to do would be to figure out options within the Mac applications.
